Georgia's PM says new U.S. administration's fair approach can repair damage caused by previous one's injustice
“We held meetings this week covering various topics relating to the reset of Georgian-American relations. Georgia now awaits reciprocal steps from the American side,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told the media.
The Head of Government added that the Georgian side had once again reaffirmed its readiness to reset relations and renew the strategic partnership on a concrete roadmap.
“We held meetings this week, rather interesting meetings, and discussed various topics connected with the reset of Georgian-American relations. We naturally expect these to continue. We have once again confirmed to our American partners our readiness to reset relations and renew the strategic partnership with a concrete roadmap. This is our very clear message, which we have shared once more with our American partners, and we await reciprocal steps on their part,” the Prime Minister stated.
Kobakhidze went on to say that a great deal had been damaged in Georgian-American relations, and that all of it had been the consequence of the previous administration’s unjust conduct.
“We also shared with them our thinking on how we are preparing for the October 2028 elections. We have stated publicly that we are already preparing for the 2028 elections. This too was a subject of our discussions with our American partners. A great deal was damaged in Georgian-American relations, and all of it was the result of the previous administration’s injustice. You will recall how unjustly the previous administration conducted itself. We spoke frankly about this with representatives of the new administration. What was damaged through injustice can be repaired only through a fair and reciprocal approach. We are ready for a reset of relations. I shall say it once more: what was damaged by the injustice of the previous administration can be repaired only by a fair approach from the new administration. That is one of the principal messages we conveyed to our American partners,” Kobakhidze declared.
