Georgia's PM says confirmation from former high-ranking official reveals use of intelligence against Georgia

“The American administration and its representatives confirm that certain mechanisms, including foreign funding channels, were used for hostile activities against our national interests,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a journalist’s question. The inquiry referenced a statement by a former high-ranking American official, who revealed that on multiple occasions, both in Europe and Ukraine, non-governmental organisations were employed to achieve particular objectives.

According to the Prime Minister, this information, shared by a senior American official, serves as yet another confirmation that targeted schemes were implemented against Georgia, with the involvement of special services.

“This case involves the involvement of intelligence agencies. Previously, we spoke about the role of USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and even the Trump administration acknowledged how specific schemes were employed for hostile purposes, including against our state. Remember the considerable controversy when we introduced the Transparency Law? Today, the American authorities and their representatives are confirming that particular mechanisms, foreign funding channels, were indeed used for hostile activities against our national interests.

Once again, I must remind you of the shameful hype artificially generated at the time by certain ambassadors, media outlets, political parties, and NGOs, an act of hostility directed against Georgia’s strategic national interests. Of course, this latest information from a senior American official confirms that, against Georgia and its national interests, specific schemes, including the involvement of intelligence agencies and certain organisations, were used to undermine us,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Retired U.S. Army Colonel and former Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State (2001–2005), Lawrence Wilkerson, recently discussed ‘how the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) used the media and non-governmental organisations.'”
