Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rasulzoda. During their tete-a-tete meeting, the parties placed particular emphasis on the special significance of the Georgian Prime Minister’s official visit to Tajikistan.
Both sides expressed hope that this first visit at the highest level would usher in a new stage in bilateral relations and give fresh impetus to deepening cooperation across a range of fields. Attention was also drawn to the importance of further strengthening coordination within international organisations and multilateral formats.
Following the face-to-face talks, negotiations continued in an expanded format involving members of both governments.
The Tajik Prime Minister described the visit by his Georgian counterpart as historic and reaffirmed his country’s readiness to deepen its friendly relations with Georgia.
“This is a historic moment for our two countries. The head of the Georgian government is visiting Tajikistan for the first time, and I am confident that a new and highly significant chapter will be written in the history of our relations. The relationship between our peoples has always been built on trust, respect and sincerity. The Georgian people hold a special place in the hearts of Tajiks, owing to their nature, rich culture and traditions. The contribution of our Georgian friends to Tajikistan’s achievements in science, healthcare, construction and architecture occupies a special place in our history. Our meeting carries even greater significance given that one of the main avenues in the centre of Dushanbe bears Georgia’s name. Our two countries have always understood one another well, and today our shared goal is to give serious momentum to bilateral cooperation across every direction,” Kokhir Rasulzoda said.
The Georgian Prime Minister thanked his Tajik counterpart for hosting the Georgian delegation at the highest level.
“This is a historic moment. This marks the first official visit at the highest level from Georgia to Tajikistan. Our nations, our countries, are closely bound together by historical tradition and friendship, and it is our responsibility to do everything we can to strengthen our partnership and cooperation. We reaffirm our commitment to this goal. I want to thank Tajikistan for its strong support and defence of Georgia’s national interests. Thank you for respecting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is of particular importance to Georgia,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Following the meeting, Georgia and the Republic of Tajikistan signed several cooperation agreements across various fields. The Prime Ministers of both countries were present at the signing ceremony.
