Georgia’s national hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze honored on his birthday
Georgia’s National Hero Giorgi Antsukhelidze would have turned 42 today. Servicemen of the 4th Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Defence Forces and representatives of the Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeant Academy, together with members of the national hero’s family, paid tribute to his memory at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery.
His fellow servicemen laid a wreath at his grave.
Giorgi Antsukhelidze, a junior sergeant of the 41st Battalion of the 4th Infantry Brigade, was killed in action during the August 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
Antsukhelidze was posthumously awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, First Class, and the Defense Ministry’s Devotion to the Motherland medal. He was also granted the title of National Hero of Georgia.
