Georgia’s FM: Resolutions on Georgia are political weapons to fuel societal polarisation

“This is fundamentally a political tool designed to manufacture a negative agenda against the Georgian government and further fuel division and polarisation within Georgian society. This clause means precisely that,” stated Maka Botchorishvili, Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during an appearance on the programme Imedis Kvira, while discussing recent resolutions passed by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.

According to the Minister, in this regard, “not only are statements being made, but steps are being taken, and actions are being witnessed that are aimed at interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs, which directly contradicts the respect for our country’s sovereignty.”

The Head of the Foreign Ministry also drew attention to the resolution on Georgia adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), highlighting that members of the opposition and the non-governmental sector applauded its adoption from the assembly hall.

“These are the people who are directly putting their names to a document that actively works against Georgia’s national interests, and this was a clear demonstration of that fact.

The PACE resolution, this entire document, is an assault on the Georgian state and Georgian society. Every single provision contained within it was essentially authored and supplied by these very people. They are complicit in the assault currently being waged against us,” Maka Botchorishvili declared.
