Georgian President echoes new Arms Control treaty

“Arms Control is always a positive development but knowing as we know, Russia from closer, it’s obvious that monitoring, verification is the key. It’s not taking words for granted, and under that condition, it becomes a very important instrument for which we would be very thankful if that happens, but with maximum control,” Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili declared at the joint with Jens Stoltenberg press conference at NATO HQ.

Salome Zourabichvili responded to the Deutsche Welle’s question whether there is a concern that Russia may come up with a reason not to extend the New START treaty and what it stakes for European allies.

“We’re not part to any of those discussions, but it’s very clear for a small country, and a small country in the region where we are and especially at this time in that region, that whatever constraints the militarization of the region and of some of the big powers that are around us, is very important,” Salome Zourabichvili declared.
