Georgian politician and businessman Levan Gachechiladze passed away at 61
Levan Gachechiladze has died at the age of 61, a loss confirmed by his family. A politician in Georgia’s political landscape, Gachechiladze served in the fifth, sixth, and seventh convocations of the Parliament and was an opposition candidate in the 2008 presidential election.
Gachechiladze embarked on his political journey in 1999, joining the Georgian Parliament. Between 1999 and 2002, he represented the electoral bloc “Citizens’ Union of Georgia” in the fifth convocation. He soon parted ways with the majority, co-founding the New Rights party alongside Davit Gamkrelidze. Following the 2002 local elections, he joined the Tbilisi City Council on the Right’s list. From 2004 to 2008, he served in the sixth convocation of Parliament as a majoritarian representative from Tbilisi Vake, under the “New Rights” electoral bloc.
In 2008, he was the United Opposition’s candidate for the presidency. Between June 7 and June 20, 2008, Gachechiladze was a member of the seventh convocation of Parliament, elected via the “United Opposition (National Council, Rights)” bloc.
