Georgian PM: We desire to start strategic partnership with US from clean slate with concrete roadmap

“One of our top foreign policy goals is to start over with our strategic cooperation with the United States. In this regard, of course, the meeting between our Minister of Foreign Affairs [Maka Botchorishvili] and Madam Ambassador [Robin Dunnigan] is significant,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an interview with the GPB First Channel.

According to the PM, “it is not customary to disclose the content of meetings held behind closed doors, however, both sides expressed interest in substantially and qualitatively resetting relations between Georgia and the US.”

“We have already made multiple public remarks expressing our intention to fully reset relations, to begin a strategic collaboration from scratch, and to do so with a precise roadmap reflecting concrete objectives.

Let’s outline concrete objectives together that will reflect priorities important for both countries. This is how we want to restore Georgia’s strategic cooperation with the United States. I believe there is value alignment.

Remember what we’ve been talking about for the last three years, and now the new US government is saying the same thing on almost every issue. There is agreement amongst views; this is a public truth that everyone recognises. The rest, I believe, will be determined by the actions of both parties. We are completely ready,” Irakli Kobakhidze declared.

The Prime Minister noted that the meeting with the US Ambassador was the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and it took place shortly after.

“Regarding Georgian-American relations, there is alignment, the main thing is that concrete steps are taken. This will largely depend on how the deep state in the US is ultimately defeated,” the Prime Minister added.
