Georgian PM: Russia rejects 20 per cent of Georgia’s sovereignty, HRVP Kallas rejects 100 per cent
“There is one country, the Russian Federation, that refuses to recognise Georgia’s sovereignty over 20 per cent of our territory, and then there is Madam Kaja Kallas, who refuses to recognise Georgia’s sovereignty over 100 per cent of the nation’s territory. This is an absolute disgrace,” declared the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, in response to a journalist’s question during a briefing at the Government Administration.
According to the Prime Minister, it is a deeply troubling and shameful state of affairs when the EU High Representative actively rejects and opposes the democratic will of the Georgian people.
‘We have often said that there is a country, the Russian Federation, that does not recognise Georgia’s sovereignty over 20 per cent of our territory. And then there is Madam Kaja Kallas, who does not recognise Georgia’s sovereignty over 100 per cent of the country’s territory. You can judge for yourselves how such an attitude should be evaluated. Naturally, this is an utterly shameful stance; it is a profoundly damaging attitude that deserves the harshest condemnation. When the EU High Representative fails to recognise and openly opposes the will of the Georgian people, it is a very grave state of affairs,” the Prime Minister noted.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated in Brussels ahead of the EU Foreign Ministers’ meetings: ‘We are also struggling with Georgia, as we don’t really have connections with the government. We don’t want to support the government. We want to support the people of Georgia.’
