Georgian PM: Georgia's economy grows at average of 9.3% over five years, one of Europe's fastest

“We are the fastest-growing economy in Europe. Our average economic growth over the last five years was around 9.3%, which is again the highest figure in Europe,” the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated at a panel discussion held within the framework of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the main topic of which was “The Middle Corridor – Connecting Europe and Asia through Energy”.

According to the PM, Georgia’s success is the result of the reforms implemented by the government.

“We are very successful in terms of promoting economic development. Georgia is one of the safest countries, not only in the region, but also in the broader region, I would say. We are the fastest-growing economy in Europe. Our average economic growth over the last five years was around 9.3%, which is again the highest figure in Europe.

Everybody should properly assess the economic success, which is the result of the reforms the country is implementing, as well as the fact that Georgia has the lowest level of corruption in the region. In this regard, we are performing better than around ten European Union countries.

If there is a positive and fair assessment of Georgia’s progress step by step, it should inspire greater enthusiasm for deeper integration into the European space. We naturally belong to Europe. We are doing our best to advance our country through economic growth and improvements in our governance system. That’s why we can remain truly optimistic, despite some difficulties in the relationship between Georgia and the European Union. We are hopeful that these challenges will be resolved with a change in certain political circumstances,” the Prime Minister has stated.
