Georgian people and government are united in support for Ukraine, Parliament Speaker tells Verkhovna Rada Chairman

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili addressed Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk with a letter.

Based on the letter, Georgian people and the government stand united in support for Ukraine.

“Regarding your recent video address to the Members of Parliament of Georgia, let me convey our full support to the people, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Georgia and Ukraine are indeed closely connected with strategic partnership now, and with historic friendship for centuries. We share common values and vision of our nations’ European and Euro-Atlantic future.

Georgia was the first to experience full-scale Russian military aggression in the early 1990s and, again, in 2008. Russian occupation, with daily tragic consequences for my country and local residents, has continued for decades, and now we see Russia’s yet another, full-scale aggression against Ukraine.

Georgia always demonstrated dedication to our brotherly Ukraine, especially after the Russian aggression against you in 2014. This historic injustice saw our countries’ destinies intertwined and more connected than ever before. This is why we are doing everything in our power to help you, to stop the war, stop the aggression, and get back to the path of our common future in NATO and the European Union.

To be more specific, our solidarity to you was demonstrated by increasingly robust political and diplomatic efforts internationally. We stood by you at the UN General Assembly, condemning the Russian invasion; at the International Criminal Court, co-authoring the call for investigation of Russian war crimes; at the Council of Europe, supporting the suspension of the Russian participation, to name a few.

We are disappointed that political speculation and utter disinformation campaigns overshadowed Georgia’s enduring and selfless support and solidarity with Ukraine. The slander of alleged Georgian swerving from the path of Ukraine support are simply not true.

And, rest assured, Mr. Chairman, that we, the people and Government of Georgia are united, not divided, in our support for Ukraine, and will continue to stand with you in future too,” Shalva Papuashvili said.

The copy of the letter was sent to members of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.
