Georgian parliamentary delegation meets Chair of Canada's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development
As part of an official visit to Canada, a delegation of the Georgian Parliament, led by Vice Speaker and head of the Georgian-Canadian Parliamentary Friendship Group Nino Tsilosani, met with Ahmed Hussen, Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development of the Canadian Parliament.
According to the Georgian Parliament’s press service, the two sides discussed their bilateral relations and emphasised the importance of strengthening both political and economic cooperation.
Ahmed Hussen reaffirmed Canada’s firm commitment to developing bilateral ties, noting that Canada and Georgia are allies who share common values.
“This meeting was an opportunity for me to reaffirm the strong diplomatic relationship that exists between Canada and Georgia. Canada and Georgia are united by shared values when it comes to supporting peace and security in the world, and in the South Caucasus in particular. I am delighted that this meeting took place and I hope that the relationship between Canada and Georgia will grow ever deeper,” said Ahmed Hussen.
Vice Speaker Nino Tsilosani noted that the Canadian side is well acquainted with the geopolitical situation in Georgia and the wider region. She expressed the view that the level of interest shown by the Canadian side, and the momentum of their bilateral meetings, constitute a promising foundation for advancing the partnership to a new stage and developing an even more fruitful collaboration in the future.
“Perhaps the most important message to take away is the clear interest on the part of both the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Canadian Government more broadly in developing relations with Georgia not only at the political level, but at the economic level as well,” said Nino Tsilosani at the close of the meeting.
Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, emphasised that the meetings are already producing tangible results. These include advancements in strengthening economic diplomacy and improving prospects for investment in Georgia’s key sectors.
“Our meetings have produced tangible outcomes. There is genuine interest in investing in Georgia. During the meeting, we discussed geopolitics and bilateral relations, as well as economic diplomacy and the specific projects that Canadian investors and investment funds would find attractive. These span the fields of IT, cybersecurity, education, and maritime energy,” said Mariam Lashkhi.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation comprises: Vice Speaker Nino Tsilosani; Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs; Irakli Zarkua, Chair of the Diaspora Committee, and Committee Deputy Chair Gocha Enukidze; Viktor Sanikidze, Chair of the Sports Committee; and Giorgi Khakhubia, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
