Georgian parliamentary delegation holds high-level meetings in Canadian Parliament, Senate

The Georgian parliamentary delegation, chaired by Vice Speaker Nino Tsilosani, held high-level meetings with the key committees of Canada’s Parliament and Senate on the first day of the official visit.

The delegation members – Mariam Lashkhi, Irakli Zarkua and Victor Sanikidze – met with the Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Peter M. Boehm and Deputy Chair Peter Harder.

The meeting focused on geopolitical challenges, regional security and economic partnership. The Georgian side provided the senators with objective information about the ongoing reforms in Georgia, the strength of democratic institutions, and the progress achieved on the path of European integration, emphasising that decisions should be based on facts and internationally recognized ratings.

The delegation met Senator Marilou McPhedran to review the significance of parliamentary diplomacy and the issues covered by the international agenda for women’s empowerment.

The parliamentary delegation is continuing its official visit to Canada to strengthen political and economic ties between the two countries.
