Georgian Parliament Speaker meets with Albanian Deputy Speaker

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Deputy Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Klodiana Spahiu.

During the encounter, Papuashvili conveyed his gratitude to Archbishop Ioannis (Joan) of Albania for his recent visit to offer condolences to the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II.

According to the Georgian Parliament, the discussion highlighted the growing potential for cooperation between the two nations, both bilaterally and within the broader context of the Western Balkans. The shared aspiration for European Union membership and the significance of collaborative efforts in this regard were also acknowledged.

The conversation further addressed issues concerning bilateral cooperation, underscoring the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties.

Additionally, the pair examined the relationship of both countries with the European Union and NATO.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the inaugural Summit of Speakers of Parliaments from the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (PAM) member and partner states, currently underway in Budva, Montenegro.

The Georgian parliamentary delegation, led by Shalva Papuashvili, in his capacity as President of the Black Sea Parliamentary Assembly, includes Irakli Mezurnishvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee and Head of Georgia’s Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
