Georgian Parliament Speaker meets newly appointed UNICEF Representative to Georgia

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, held an introductory meeting with Isabella Castrogiovanni, the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to Georgia.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Shalva Papuashvili emphasised that Georgia deeply values its long-standing and highly fruitful cooperation with UNICEF.

“Isabella Castrogiovanni highlighted the successful collaboration between Georgia and UNICEF during the drafting of the Code on the Rights of the Child. She noted that, in line with the current programme document, children’s rights, education, healthcare, and social policy remain clearly defined priority areas for Georgia. Furthermore, she expressed full readiness to work closely with the Parliament of Georgia on specific upcoming initiatives.

During the meeting, it was noted that Georgia is a member of the UNICEF Executive Board and will continue to engage in its operations.

Shalva Papuashvili also briefed the new UNICEF Representative on Georgian legislation governing the activities of international organisations and donors,” the press service statement read.

According to the same report, Shalva Papuashvili concluded the meeting by wishing Isabella Castrogiovanni every success in her new role.
