The Georgian parliamentary delegation, comprising Nikoloz Samkharadze (Head of Delegation), Mariam Lashkhi, and Levan Makhashvili, took part in the 71st annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from October 11 to 13.

According to the Georgian Parliament, during the session, members of the delegation submitted amendments to reports and resolutions prepared by the Assembly’s committees. These amendments focused on Georgia’s progress towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, ongoing political developments within the country, the situation in occupied regions, and Georgia’s security and foreign policy priorities.

“The Georgian delegation paid particular attention to the situation in Georgia’s regions occupied by Russia and proposed amendments to the Assembly’s resolution on NATO’s evolving Russia strategy. During discussions with Assembly leadership, the members reaffirmed Georgia’s unwavering commitment to the Alliance’s shared values and objectives.

As a result of the decision made at the plenary session, the Georgian delegation moved from Associate Status to a new category – Partners for Comprehensive Security. This category also includes the European Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and parliaments of Bosnia and Austria, among others. These institutional changes will help strengthen parliamentary diplomacy between NATO Partner States and foster closer cooperation with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly,” the Georgian Parliament has said in a press release.

At the conclusion of the session, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed the Assembly, outlining NATO’s key priorities and current challenges.
