Georgian painter and architect Zurab Tsereteli has passed away at the age of 91, as confirmed by family members.
Tsereteli graduated from the Tbilisi Art Academy in 1958, and his remarkable works include the iconic Saint George Monument located at Freedom Square in Tbilisi.
Since 1997, he served as the President of the Russian Art Academy and was the first Georgian artist to receive the Honourable Medal from the U.S. National Art Society.
Throughout his illustrious career, Tsereteli received numerous accolades, including the Pablo Picasso Grand Prix and the UNESCO Gold Order. In recognition of his contributions to the arts, he was named an Honourable Citizen of Tbilisi in 2002.
