Georgian military police officer arrested for domestic threats

The Special Investigation Service has arrested an employee of the Military Police Department of the Defense Forces of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia.

The arrest follows an investigation into incidents involving the accused threatening his wife. On February 23, 2024, after losing money in gambling, the accused returned home and engaged in a dispute with his wife, during which he threatened to kill her. Subsequently, he continued to threaten her. In March of the same year, he again threatened his wife over household issues, both verbally and via text message. The victim, in all instances, had a reasonable fear that the threats would be carried out.

Prompted by the victim’s report, the Special Investigation Service initiated an investigation. Working in cooperation with the Prosecutor’s Office, they gathered evidence incriminating the law enforcement officer. Following a court decision, the accused was arrested.

The crime carries a potential punishment of imprisonment for up to three years. The Special Investigation Service is continuing its investigation into the case.
