Georgian lawmakers observe a minute of silence to commemorate Ukrainian war victims

Georgian lawmakers observed one minute of silence at the parliament sitting, which opened with the national anthem of Ukraine to commemorate victims of the war in Ukraine.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said Georgians could see with their own eyes the Ukrainian people’s bravery and their struggle for freedom and independence.

“This struggle is familiar to us Georgians, and we know well how our Ukrainian sisters and brothers feel in these difficult days. The struggle, especially the struggle for freedom, always results in casualties among the civilian population, which is the greatest horror, even in times of war,” Shalva Papuashvili said.

The Georgian parliament today will hold political debates about ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. The parliament hall is decorated with Ukrainian state flags. Ukrainian flag flies next to the parliament floor.
