Georgian issue to be discussed at NATO Military Committee session

The Military Committee, NATO’s highest Military Authority, will meet in Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) Session on 16 and 17 January 2018, at the NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium. The press release published on NATO’s web page reports in that regard.

General Petr Pavel, Chairman of the Military Committee, will preside over the sessions.

“The Chiefs of Defence will discuss the challenging security environment on NATO’s southern flank and the Alliance’s contribution to its stabilisation. The CHODs with their Resolute Support counterparts will review the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan and discuss the wider region. The Chiefs of Defence also will discuss the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and NATO’s role in Iraq during 2018. Meetings with partners Ukraine and Georgia will focus on the security situations on the ground, defence reform progress and the way ahead. The Chiefs of Defence will also be informed and debate the proposed recommendations for the NATO Command Structure Adaptation as well as exchange views on Allied coherence, specific to military priorities” – the press release reads.

The Military Committee meets twice a year at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, at the level of Chiefs of Defence to discuss NATO operations and missions and provide the North Atlantic Council with consensus-based military advice on how the Alliance can best meet global security challenges.
