Georgian Foreign Minister, David Zalkaliani has met with the Co-chairs of the Geneva Internal Discussions from the EU, UN and OSCE today, the press service of the Ministry reported.

The Foreign Minister expressed concern over the increasing provocations by Russia, which threaten peace and stability throughout the region and restrict the fundamental rights of the local population.

Davit Zalkaliani stressed the cases of illegal detention and abduction of Georgian citizens, as well as the ongoing illegal bordarization in the vicinity of the villages of Atotsi, Zemo Nikozi and Khurvaleti.

Russia’s activation of hybrid instruments and disinformation attacks on Georgia and the EU Monitoring Mission was also mentioned during the meeting. According to the Minister, such destructive steps are aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country.

The Foreign Minister focused on the dare humanitarian situation in Gali and Akhalgori, the closure of the occupation line and the restriction of free movement, which puts a heavy burden on the local population.

The parties discussed the need for Russia to implement the ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008, mediated by the EU.

Davit Zalkaliani called on the Co-chairs of the Geneva Internal Discussions to use all available means to stop illegal provocations along the occupation line and to release the illegally detained Georgian citizens.
