Georgian FM says cyber attack on Lugar Lab aimed at paralysing it

“The attack on Georgia’s critically important institution was aimed at paralysing it,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani regarding the cyber attack on Lugar Lab.

“Together with international partners, Georgia will do its best to identify the perpetrators of these illegal action,” note Zalkaliani.

“This is part of the disinformation and illegal campaign carried out amid pandemic against a institution that is critically important and very valuable for Georgia.

Lugar Laboratory has paramount importance in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Together with our international partners, we will do our utmost to identify the perpetrators of these illegal acts,” said David Zalkaliani.

At the same time, Zalkaliani responded to the opposition statements on the cyber attack and once again noted that the government will have an appropriate response to this illegal action.

A foreign cyber attack on the computer system of the Georgian Ministry of Health took place on September 1, said the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The investigation determined that a cyber-attack was carried out from one of the foreign countries. The attack was aimed at illegal appropriation and use of important medical records and pandemic management information stored in the databases of the central office of the Health Ministry, its structural units, including the Richard G. Lugar Center for Public Health Research of the National Agency for Disease Control and Public Health.
