Georgian FM discusses bilateral and international organization cooperation with Icelandic counterpart

Within the framework of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, met with her Icelandic counterpart, Thórdís Kolbrún Gylfadóttir.

Maka Botchorishvili congratulated Thórdís Kolbrún Gylfadóttir on her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and wished her success in her future endeavours.

The ministers reviewed cooperation issues in bilateral relations and within the framework of international organizations.

Maka Botchorishvili thanked the Icelandic side for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The parties discussed security challenges in the region.

The historic visit of the President of Iceland to Georgia in 2024 was noted, during which an Icelandic business delegation also visited Tbilisi.

Emphasis was placed on the agreement between Georgia and Iceland on cooperation in the aviation sector, which will be signed shortly.

The conversation covered Georgia and Iceland’s relations with the European Union and European integration issues. The ministers discussed ongoing events in Georgia.

Both parties expressed readiness to continue active communication to develop relations between the two countries.
