Georgia to face Spain in 2026 World Cup qualifiers

The draw for the World Cup qualifiers took place in Zurich on December 13 last year.

Georgia was placed in a four-team group, where one of the opponents in the Nations League play-offs was the winner of the Spain-Netherlands matchup.

The first leg ended 2:2 in the Netherlands on March 20, while the return match in Spain finished 3:3. Spain won the penalty shootout and advanced to the Nations League semi-finals.

In Group E, Georgia will face Spain, Turkey, and Bulgaria. Group winners will qualify directly for the World Cup, while runners-up will compete in the play-offs. The qualifiers for this group begin in September 2025.

The 2026 World Cup will take place on June 11-July 19, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
