Georgia to face Cape Verde in friendly match
The Georgian national team will conclude its June training camp with a friendly match against Cape Verde on June 8 at the Ramaz Shengelia Stadium in Kutaisi. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. The GPB’s First Channel will live broadcast the match.
On June 7, the team held a pre-match training session at the stadium, with 23 players participating. Notably, head coach Willy Sagnol has opted not to call up several key players, instead fielding a refreshed squad for this match.
Cape Verde is currently leading its World Cup qualifying group in the African zone with 13 points from six matches—one point ahead of Cameroon, with four rounds remaining. Only the group winner advances directly to the World Cup, while the runner-up must compete in the play-offs.
This will be Georgia’s third match in Kutaisi. The team previously defeated Azerbaijan 1–0 in 2001 and drew 2–2 with Belarus in 2017, both in friendly matches.
According to reports, all tickets for the Georgia vs. Cape Verde match have been sold, and a full house is expected.
