The second session of the Georgia-Serbia Joint Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, under the co-chairmanship of Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, and Serbia’s Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade, Jagoda Lazarević.

According to the Ministry of Economy, in her opening remarks at the commission, Mariam Kvrivishvili spoke about the importance and growing dynamics of trade and economic cooperation between the countries, as well as the existing potential across various sectoral areas.

“We attach great importance to commencing negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Serbia. Georgia is ready to take appropriate steps in close partnership with Serbian colleagues. Despite the growing dynamic, the current volume of bilateral trade does not yet reflect the full potential, and it is essential that we intensify efforts for the further development and expansion of these economic ties,” the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development stated.

According to the minister, Georgia maintained rapid economic growth through sound, diversified economic policy and ongoing reforms.

“Between 2021 and 2024, Georgia recorded one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, 9.8% on average. According to preliminary estimates, average economic growth in January-October 2025 stood at 7.6%,” Mariam Kvrivishvili stated.

Regarding cooperation between the two countries in sectoral areas, Mariam Kvrivishvili considers that there is significant potential in this regard.

“Georgia is positioning itself as a regional digital hub, developing human capital, improving economic competitiveness, and integrating more businesses into the global digital economy,” the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development noted.

The opening remarks at the second session of the Georgia-Serbia Joint Governmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation were attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze and Irakli Nadareishvili, as well as Deputy Head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia Ilia Shamugia and Georgia’s Ambassador to Greece and the Republic of Serbia Levan Beridze.
