Today marks the 41st birthday of Georgia’s national hero, Giorgi Antsukhelidze. In his honour, members of the 4th Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Defence Forces, along with representatives from the Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeants’ Academy and his family, gathered at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers’ Cemetery to pay their respects.

According to the Ministry of Defence, his fellows laid a wreath on his grave, honouring his memory.

Junior Sergeant Giorgi Antsukhelidze, a soldier in the 41st Battalion of the 4th Infantry Brigade, displayed extraordinary heroism and sacrificed his life during the Russo-Georgian War in August 2008.

Antsukhelidze was posthumously awarded the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, 1st degree, the departmental medal Devoted to the Motherland, and was honoured with the title of National Hero of Georgia.
