Georgia joins UNHRC resolution to probe into Russian violations in Ukraine
Georgia has joined the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Resolution – “Situation of Human Rights in Ukraine Stemming from the Russian Aggression”, adopted following the urgent debate, which reiterates utterly difficult humanitarian situation in the European Union, the country’s Foreign Ministry has tweeted.
The Human Rights Council this morning adopted a resolution to establish an independent international commission of inquiry to investigate all alleged violations of human rights in the context of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine.
The resolution was adopted with 32 votes in favour, two against (Russia and Eritrea) and 13 abstentions, including India, China, Pakistan, Sudan and Venezuela.
“In the resolution, the Council condemned in the strongest possible terms the human rights violations and abuses and violations of international humanitarian law resulting from the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine and called upon the Russian Federation to immediately end its human rights violations and abuses and violations of international humanitarian law in Ukraine,” the council stated in its readout.
