Georgia expects int'l community to react to Georgian's murder in occupied region, Speaker says

“Russia keeps non-fulfilment of the internationally mediated 2008 ceasefire agreement. The international community should reinforce pressure on Russia to fulfil the truce agreement and end occupation,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, EU member states’ representatives were notified that Georgia raised the killed Georgian citizen’s issue at the Ergneti meeting last night and demanded punishment for those who committed the crime.

“We expect reactions and evaluations from our international partners and the punishment of those who committed the crime. The government is very active in this regard. As for the fact itself, this is exactly what we are talking about – a grave consequence of the occupation, when the population living along the occupation line, their lives and safety face threats daily and represents a challenge to the state,” he said.

The Speaker stressed the EU decision about Georgia and the country’s EU integration would contribute to the peaceful restoration of Georgia’s territorial integrity and end the occupation.

A Georgian citizen, Tamaz Ginturi, was killed during his illegal detention in the occupied territory of Kirbali village, and another Georgian citizen was abducted on October 6.
