Georgia detains 48 undocumented foreigners in nationwide immigration checks
Officers from the Interior Ministry’s Migration Department have carried out special immigration control operations in Georgia.
According to the Interior Ministry, 48 foreign nationals staying in Georgia illegally have been detained, including citizens of Turkey, Cuba, Iraq, Nigeria, Jordan, China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Russia.
“As part of the special immigration checks, Migration Department officers inspected premises of various types. Checks revealed that the detainees were staying in Georgia in violation of the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.
The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Procedures are underway to deport them from Georgia,” the Interior Ministry said.
