Georgia and EU Association Committee meet virtually

Georgia and the European Union Association Committee will remotely hold the 6th session today.

Deputy Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service Luke Devine will head the meeting based on a rotation principle.

The First Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili will chair the Georgian delegation.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, the Association Committee is one of the main cooperation formats between Georgia and the European Union discussing the implementation of the commitments as per the Georgia-EU Association Agreement.

The issues to be discussed include the reforms ongoing or carried out by Georgia in trade, transport, communications, energy, and education spheres.

The Committee will also consider Georgia-EU cooperation in the security sphere and the EU’s role in a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict.

The sides will talk about EU support to Georgia in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic consequences.

The sides will also focus on the forthcoming 2021 Eastern Partnership summit, which will set new goals of EU-Eastern Partnership policy.
