Georgia and Azerbaijan to establish working group to enhance sectoral cooperation in agriculture

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Majnun Mammadov, along with members of the delegation.

During the meeting, the parties explored opportunities for future collaboration in the agricultural sector, including prospects for strengthening trade and economic ties.

“The participation of Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, as well as the current visit of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture to Tbilisi, underscores the strength of the high-level political relations between our countries,” stated Davit Songulashvili.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, he also outlined Georgia’s national programmes supporting the development of agriculture and highlighted the significance of the memorandum signed between Georgia and Azerbaijan to facilitate trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs. The Minister paid particular attention to Georgian products with export potential.
Discussions also covered cooperation in food safety, veterinary medicine, phytosanitary measures, and the importance of exchanging knowledge and experience through scientific research and sector-specific educational programmes.

According to the ministry, it was agreed that establishing dedicated working groups would be essential to enhancing the effectiveness of collaboration in the agricultural sector.

“We have agreed to form a joint working group between our ministries. We believe this will foster closer cooperation, particularly in the agricultural and food sectors. Expanding trade in agriculture was a key point of our discussions with the Minister,” said Majnun Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture.
