GD's parliamentary delegation holds official meetings in China

According to the Georgian Dream party, a high-ranking parliamentary delegation is currently visiting the People’s Republic of China to hold strategic meetings aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.

“During the visit, Georgian politicians held high-level, multi-sectoral meetings with representatives of the ruling Chinese Communist Party, the National People’s Congress, the Center for Language and Education Cooperation (CLEC) under the Ministry of Education, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Technical Equipment (CCTIP), the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and leading technology companies.

Georgia is recognised as a country of geostrategic importance, serving as a key hub of the transcontinental Middle Corridor transport route connecting Europe and Asia. Since 2022, the strategic role of this transit infrastructure has grown significantly, reflected in a 30% increase in cargo turnover.

The European Union’s official position underscores the global relevance of regional cooperation. For China, deepening relations with Georgia is part of its broader strategy to develop alternative routes to European markets, particularly important in light of current geopolitical constraints affecting northern transport corridors.

The key goals of the visit include strengthening inter-party cooperation and expanding the China-Georgia strategic partnership across sectors such as education, agriculture, and economic development. These efforts reflect both the socio-economic interests of the Georgian people and the country’s readiness to play a pivotal role as a bridge between East and West. Georgia’s transit capabilities position it as a crucial player in the evolving configuration of Eurasian trade, providing access to a market of 2.3 billion consumers through various multilateral free trade agreements,” the Georgian Dream stated.

According to Giorgi Volski, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and a member of the delegation, “The importance of the Middle Corridor has long been recognised, but today it is critical for both East and West. Connecting these markets is impossible without this corridor. Georgia’s geopolitical location aligns with the demands of the modern Silk Road initiative, and the transformations taking place through Georgia will have a direct and positive impact on the economic and social well-being of our citizens.”
