GD’s Machavariani urges EU officials to distance themselves from Brussels Spokesperson’s statement on October 4 protest
Levan Machavariani, a member of the parliamentary majority, stated that it would be appropriate for high-ranking officials in Brussels to distance themselves from a recent statement made by their spokesperson, which, according to him, expressed support for the violent protest on October 4.
Machavariani emphasized that the continued silence of EU officials could be interpreted as agreement with the spokesperson’s remarks.
“It would be good if they said clearly that this is not the official position of Brussels. They can do this in simple words, because silence means consent. Their spokesperson’s statement amounted to direct encouragement of a violent protest and an attempted coup.
When Brussels comments on everything and never hesitates to criticized the ‘Georgian Dream,’ the world also saw what happened on October 4—an attempt to overthrow the government. Naturally, we expect their comments acknowledging that this was an act of violence inconsistent with democratic values,” Machavariani said.
