GD's Kadagishvili: When giants fight, we choose to focus on country's best interests

“Georgia is a small country, and when giants are fighting with each other, we should focus on defending the country’s best interests,” said Irakli Kadagishvili, a member of the Georgian Dream (GD) party.

Irakli Kadagishvili was asked what Georgia would choose if U.S. President Donald Trump imposed customs sanctions on countries trading with Iran.

According to Kadagishvili, Georgia will act in the best interests of the country.

“It is in the best interest of our country not to harm national goals. We count on nobody but ourselves. Maia Sandu hoped for something here. On October 4, she called on demonstrators to storm, and today she declares that she would unify her country with another. We don’t live with that kind of hope. We count on ourselves and will act in the best interests of Georgia.

It is up to the government to decide. The government will decide on this issue and tell you. We have seen Trump’s statements about the imposition of tariffs on different countries. Then exceptions follow. This is an issue that the government must resolve through appropriate preparation and information verification,” he said.

For the record, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said she would vote in favour of unification with neighbouring European Union and NATO member Romania if a referendum were to take place to help protect its fragile democracy against Russian pressure.

“If we have a referendum, I would vote for the unification with Romania,” she said in an interview for the British podcast ‘The Rest is Politics’, broadcast on Sunday.

“Look at what is happening around Moldova today, look at what is happening in the world. It is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive, to exist as a democracy, as a sovereign country,” Maia Sandu said.
