GD Executive Secretary: No opponents present, Mikheil Kavelashvili to be elected as president
“As we see, our opponents did not show up due to some message box. Therefore, Mikheil Kavelashvili will be elected as President of Georgia,” said Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream (GD) party.
Mamuka Mdinaradze explained the procedure for the election of president that takes place for the first time through non-direct rule by the Electoral Assembly.
The GD Executive Secretary described Mikheil Kavelashvili as a professional politician who was supported by the entire Georgia at one time.
“Today it is not the case. However, he is supported by the vast majority, since the government elected by the Georgian people elects president with the corresponding legitimacy,” he said.
The Electoral Assembly today will elect Georgia’s Sixth President through non-direct rule for the first time. The Georgian Dream (GD) party nominated and endorsed the candidacy of Mikheil Kavelashvili on the position.
A protest rally takes place at the Georgian parliament in parallel to the presidential elections.
