Gakharia-For Georgia's Teona Akubardia: Sanctions serve as supplementary lever to return country to constitutional framework through new elections
“Two things are significant: non-recognition of the illegitimate parliament and the imposition of sanctions in support of the Georgian people’s European aspirations,” said Teona Akubardia, a member of the Gakharia-For Georgia party.
According to Akubardia, over 100 individuals were sanctioned aftermath of the adoption of the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence. This time the US Department of State imposed visa restrictions on an additional 20 individuals which is the “merit of Georgian people, who have been defending the country’s constitution risking their lives for the last two weeks.”
According to Teona Akubaridia, this is a “prelude and more to come.”
“The sanctions will have an effect especially when they are imposed against those who organized and are responsible for utilizing torture methods against their people. This is a supplementary lever, along with the continuous protest to achieve our goal and return the country to the constitutional framework through new elections,” she said.
