Gakharia For Georgia's Sharashidze: NATO Secretary General's statement confirms that Georgia is out of global processes
“The statement of Mark Rutte confirms that Georgia is out of the context of the ongoing global processes that all countries, including our neighbors Armenia and Azerbaijan, benefit from for their strategic interests,” said Giorgi Sharashidze, opposition MP from the Gakharia for Georgia party.
According to Sharashidze, the Georgian Dream spares no effort to isolate the country.
“In the case of Georgia, we see exactly the opposite, regrettably. It may not be an event of vital significance, but several days ago, the Georgian Dream decided to shut down the NATO Information Center, which is against Georgia’s strategic interests. The Georgian Dream spares no effort to isolate the country, to distance it from NATO, EU, strategic partners and leave it face to face with our main adversary, Russia. This is a risky step for Georgia, our development, for long-term peace in this region,” he said.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with Radio Liberty on November 24 that he is not “naive” when speaking about the situation in Georgia and emphasized that the Alliance has clearly communicated its concerns to the Georgian side.
“We are very worried, and we have made this clear to the Georgians. We are cooperating with them, and I believe this cooperation provides a channel through which we can express our concerns. Let’s look at the situation as a whole, because alongside Georgia, we also see what is happening between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The situation there is better, including thanks to the work done by President Trump. Therefore, I would view Georgia within the broader context of the South Caucasus,” Rutte said.
