Gakharia for Georgia's Liluashvili: May 26 belongs to Georgian people, not individuals
“May 26 is not anyone’s possession. It belongs to the Georgian people and history, not a specific person. That is why I would not make such statements,” stated Beka Liluashvili, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, commenting on ex-president Salome Zourabichvili’s remarks regarding May 26.
According to Liluashvili, May 26 is not a day for individuals with particular political opinions, and he hopes there will be no confrontation.
“It is an important day for everyone. In a normal state, the government does not confront its own citizens but strives to unite them. In such a country, there would be no confrontation, but today we have people in power who will be the instigators of confrontation. If this does not happen naturally, I am sure they will provoke it artificially, using their resources. I call on everyone to refrain from any form of violence or provocation. No one, from any side, should be misled by provocation, because anything can be expected from this harmful government,” emphasised Beka Liluashvili.
Former President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, had stated on May 6: “Yesterday, I had a significant meeting where we all decided together to reclaim May 26. We will save our independence and rescue our country.”
