Gakharia for Georgia's Liluashvili challenges opposition parties: Were they unprepared for mandate termination?
“Our position remains unchanged—Parliament will not receive legitimacy from us, even through addressing the so-called Speaker. The artificially created hype carries no weight in our political agenda,” asserted Beka Liluashvili, a member of the Gakharia – For Georgia party.
“Nothing has changed regarding the mandate issue. We previously stated that we would not provide Ivanishvili with any leverage to influence our political agenda. This artificially manufactured hype has no effect on us. We have been clear and consistent. Parliament will receive no legitimacy from us, including through any actions that might imply such legitimacy via addressing Parliament or its so-called Speaker. Our stance remains firm; nothing has changed for us,” Liluashvili emphasized.
He remarked that certain phrases, statements, and assessments originate from someone’s hysteria or insecurities.
“I ask these individuals—when they were submitting appeals to the so-called Parliament Speaker regarding the termination of mandates, what were they hoping for? Were they left disappointed? Did they not anticipate that the mandates would be terminated, or is this hysteria inexplicable? What has changed since they drafted their statement? We did not issue a statement back then during the emotional turmoil, so what has shifted today? The only thing that has changed is that Georgian Dream has responded to their statements—was this truly unexpected for them?” Liluashvili questioned.
He further declared that the Gakharia – For Georgia party would not be swayed by the Georgian Dream in shaping their political agenda.
“Does it matter whether you address them or not? Our position remains unchanged. We will not discuss entering Parliament, joining committees, or granting any form of legitimacy. If anyone has lingering doubts, they should consult a fortune-teller. We will not allow either the United National Movement or Georgian Dream to manipulate our agenda,” Liluashvili asserted.
In response to Unity-National Movement leader Giorgi Vashadze’s statement urging Salome Zourabichvili to gather all political forces to form a unified platform, Liluashvili noted that “Vashadze has been actively advocating for this idea lately.”
“Let us wait to see if Salome Zourabichvili heeds Vashadze’s call or advice. I refrain from discussing hypothetical scenarios. As for collaboration with other opposition forces, we work together on matters pertaining to the country’s democratic development, foreign policy direction, the release of political prisoners, and the scheduling of new elections. However, we cannot and will not forge ideological unity or identity with the representatives of the United National Movement or remnants of the previous regime,” Liluashvili concluded.
