Gakharia-For Georgia accuses CEC, Prosecutor's Office, and Court of colluding to destroy evidence
“The Central Election Commission (CEC), the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Court are colluding to destroy crucial evidence of fraud in the October 26 elections,” stated Natia Mezvrishvili, a member of the Gakharia-For Georgia party.
Mezvrishvili commented on the Prosecutor’s Office’s recent statements regarding their investigation into verification devices.
According to Mezvrishvili, the Prosecutor’s Office shows no interest in conducting an objective investigation.
“The Prosecutor’s Office has effectively taken key evidence—specifically, the information stored in verification devices—hostage, confirming election rigging. The CEC, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Court are working together to orchestrate the destruction of this crucial evidence related to the October 26 election fraud. We cannot conclude otherwise when the CEC concealed this evidence for 17 days, only for the Prosecutor’s Office to seize it at the direction of the CEC.
This evidence could have quickly validated or refuted allegations of election rigging and resolved the ongoing political crisis. As we have asserted, the Prosecutor’s Office launched a fraudulent probe on October 30 at the request of the CEC. However, as soon as we sought court protection for the evidence on November 1, the Prosecutor’s Office seized it that very same day, while the court refused to entertain our lawsuit, claiming the evidence was already in the hands of the Prosecutor.
The ongoing investigation, including the questioning of politicians in the presence of magistrate judges, further confirms that the Prosecutor’s Office is not committed to an objective investigation. Georgian Dream, through its compliant institutions, aims to establish that the elections were not rigged, thereby gaining legitimacy.
We will do everything in our power to ensure that any efforts to destroy this evidence provide sufficient grounds to declare the rigged elections illegitimate,” she asserted.
