French President says conflict in Idlib may trigger migration crisis
The situation in the Syrian province of Idlib could trigger a migration crisis in Europe — French President Emmanuel Macron said.
Macron also added that the offensive in Idlib could lead to a “humanitarian catastrophe and escalation of the conflict.” He called on the leaders of Germany, Russia and Turkey to hold a summit as soon as possible to discuss the situation in Syria, as reported by AFP.
Earlier, Macron, along with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed willingness to meet with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to resolve the crisis in Idlib.
The leaders of France and Germany also called for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian assistance to the needy residents of the province.
