Zourabichvili extends invitation to Macron, stresses importance of European support
In an interview with La Tribune, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili revealed that she has extended an invitation to President of France Emmanuel Macron to visit Georgia on its Independence Day, May 26.
When asked about her expectations from Europe, particularly President Macron, Zourabichvili responded, “They should come”.
“Emmanuel Macron promised me practically from the moment of my election in 2018 that he would come. This visit should happen before the start of the election campaign in September. It is not just about Georgia; it is about finally freeing the Caucasus from the Soviet mentality and Russian influence. No one here wants to enter into a confrontation with Russia. This is very important for the future of Europe, including Europe’s security. The Black Sea is a crucial energy and communication transit zone. I wrote to President Macron that I am waiting for him on the Independence Day of Georgia, on May 26,” the President stated.
