The French Embassy is advising its citizens to check factors that could create a risk of being denied entry to Georgia before travelling, including participation in demonstrations in Georgia or activity on social media.

“Entry to Georgian territory may be prohibited even for holders of valid Georgian residence permits. We ask travellers to check before travelling the factors that create a risk of being denied entry to Georgian territory, including participation in demonstrations in Georgia or activity on social media,” the French Embassy said in a statement.

“Re-entry to Georgian territory may be conditional on immediate payment of substantial fines for alleged participation in such demonstrations.”

The Polish Embassy in Georgia had previously issued a similar warning.
