Freedom Square leader proposes citizens adopt ‘New Democratic Ritual’
Levan Tsutskiridze, the leader of Freedom Square, addressed participants of the ongoing rally in front of Parliament and called on citizens to create a “new democratic ritual.”
Tsutskiridze identified three components of this ritual.
“I would like to propose that each citizen adopt a new democratic ritual, which we will steadfastly carry out until our goals are achieved. I suggest three steps for this ritual:
First – every citizen should dedicate at least one day a week to standing on Rustaveli or at protest sites in other cities;
Second – we should support and financially assist, to the extent possible, the courageous lawyers and independent journalists who defend honest people and whose efforts ensure that truth can still be heard in this country;
Third – let’s join and strengthen democratic, patriotic, civic, and political forces so that we can build the foundations of our democracy now and make it so strong that no autocrat will ever be able to undermine it,” said Tsutskiridze.
Tsutskiridze also demanded the resignation of the government.
“For a year, we have been demanding basic things – free elections and the release of political prisoners. Today, we are gathered here to speak together, including on behalf of those unjustly imprisoned – this bandit government must resign! Innocent people must be freed! Free elections must be held! We must all fight for one, and one must fight for all. I ask you to repeat the new rule of our struggle: one for all, all for one, to victory – to the end – for victory!” said Levan Tsutskiridze.
