Four parliamentary committees support new Cabinet, program

The expanded sitting of the four parliamentary committees discussed the proposed Cabinet composition and a new program For Building a European State.

The committees heard ministerial nominees for Culture and Sports, Tea Tsulukiani, Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Giorgi Amilakhvari and IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs Zurab Azarashvili.

Tea Tsulukiani focused on hosting international sports tournaments and financial aid for athletes, coaches and medical personnel. The acting minister also elaborated on the scheduled cultural festivals and exhibitions and the museums’ and theatre buildings’ rehabilitation.

The candidate for the post of Minister of Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Giorgi Amilakhvari, spoke about reforms in the education system stressing bilingual teaching in schools for ethnic minorities, authorization of schools and wage policy of teachers. He said wages would increase by GEL 500 to 70% of teachers. He also summed up ongoing and completed infrastructure projects.

Health ministerial nominee Zurab Azarashvili underscored that accessibility to quality healthcare and services represented a priority for the government. He spoke about funding examinations and medicines for patients diagnosed with cancer, the import of medications from Turkey that significantly reduced prices and the construction of a multi-profile and high-technological university of international standards hospital on the premises of the Republic Hospital.

The ministerial candidates answered questions from MPs at the end of the sitting.
