Former PM: Political polarization and radicalism must end

Former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia echoed the Georgian political crisis and the 30th anniversary of the historic independence referendum in Georgia in a Twitter post.

“Political polarization & radicalism, which hinders the process of building a modern Georgian state, must come to an end. March 31, 1991, is a critical point in the recent history of Georgia, when our citizens, including those living in the Russian-occupied regions, demanded independence,” Giorgi Gakharia tweeted.

On March 31, Georgia marks two important milestone events, the first independence referendum held in 1991 and the birthday of Georgia’s first president, Zviad Gamsakhurdia.

Christian Danielsson, a personal envoy of the European Council President Charles Michel in the Georgian political crisis, reported after the hours-long joint meeting between the ruling party and the opposition on March 30 that the parties could not agree on a solution. The negotiations ended with no promising results for the second time.
