Former Chair of Adjara Government transferred to Turkiye for urgent medical treatment

Tornike Rizhvadze, the former Chairman of the Adjara Government, has been transferred to Turkiye for specialised medical care after a gunshot in the chest area, Lali Turdzeladze, Clinical Director of the First University Clinic, confirmed to GPB’s First Channel.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has indicted Aleksi Akhvlediani, head of the Maritime Transport Agency, on charges of negligent firearm storage in connection with the case involving Tornike Rizhvadze. The court released Akhvlediani on bail of GEL 30,000 on July 9.

Rizhvadze was initially admitted to Sagarejo Geohospital on July 7 and was subsequently transferred to the First University Clinic for advanced treatment. On July 9, Levan Ratiani, director of the clinic, announced that the health of the former Adjara Government Chair “is showing positive dynamics.”

An investigation into Rizhvadze’s case has been initiated under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, concerning incitement to suicide.
