Foreign national detained for illicit importation of over 3,000 pills of psychotropic substance into Georgia

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service have apprehended a foreign national on suspicion of drug trafficking.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an Israeli citizen identified as H.A., born in 2003, was detained on charges of unlawfully acquiring, possessing, and importing a substantial quantity of psychotropic substances into Georgia.

“During investigative operations at Tbilisi International Airport, officers searched the suspect’s luggage, resulting in the seizure of 3,080 pills of the psychotropic medication ‘Pregabalin’ as evidence,” the Ministry stated.

The investigation remains ongoing under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum sentence of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.
