Foreign national arrested for smuggling large quantities of psychotropic substances into Georgia
Officers from the Criminal Department of the Police and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance have detained a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran, identified as S.A., born in 2003, on suspicion of illicitly purchasing, storing, and smuggling a substantial amount of psychotropic substances into Georgia.
During a search conducted at Tbilisi International Airport, law enforcement officials seized a significant quantity of pills containing the psychotropic substance Pregabalin from the defendant’s hand luggage as evidence.
S.A. was subsequently arrested in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code, which stipulate penalties of up to 13 years’ imprisonment.
